 FAQ

# Which Indian classical instrument is easiest for an adult beginner to learn?

 Updated 27 October 2026

When the [harmonium](/en-au/instrumental/hindustani-classical/harmonium) spread through India, it was simpler to tune and quicker to learn than traditional instruments, according to the Wilson Quarterly's summary of the ethnomusicologist Matt Rahaim. Its reeds still fix every pitch, so it needs no lengthy tuning. The Metropolitan Museum of Art calls the sarangi a particularly difficult instrument to master, because the player pulls its strings sideways with the fingernails on a short neck.

Whichever instrument you choose, KalaSudha starts adult beginners at **Foundation**, in live one-to-one lessons with a vetted teacher.
