About KalaSudha in Basel

The Musik-Akademie Basel and the Ali Akbar College of Switzerland reserved 10 to 16 November 2024 for their Indian Music Seminar, a week of Indian classical music in Basel. Its flyer offered classes for singers and for sitar and tabla players in the Klaus Linder Saal and Studio 1. The same flyer promised workshops and recitals across the week. A sarod and tabla concert was set for the Grosser Saal on the opening evening, 10 November, so the week began with listening.

KalaSudha's plans for Basel pair concerts by top-class Indian classical musicians with workshops. Any workshop we announce in Basel will say its level and who teaches it. Concerts welcome listeners who have never studied the music.

You can also study online with a live teacher at the KalaSudha academy, where the sarod and the tabla are among the instruments taught. Every course follows levels set by its instructor, and top educationists vet the teaching. For a KalaSudha workshop in Basel we need enough people and suitable arrangements first, and no date has been set. Press Register for updates if you would join a class.

Why Basel

What sets KalaSudha apart in Basel

  • Class by day, recital by night

The 2024 seminar put classes and recitals side by side over seven days. That mix lets a student hear in recital what was taught in class.

  • Pick up where you left off

A returning student does not start again from scratch. KalaSudha courses run in levels, so you pick up at the level you reached before your break.

  • Voice as well as instruments

The Basel seminar offered vocal classes beside sitar and tabla. KalaSudha teaches Hindustani singing online too, with a live teacher, and khayal is one of the forms you can study.
