# Where can I learn to sing viruttam online with a live teacher?

 Updated 27 October 2026

You can study [viruttam](/en-int/vocal/carnatic-classical/viruttam) singing online with KalaSudha, live and one-to-one with a vetted teacher. A viruttam is Tamil devotional verse sung to a melody improvised in one or more ragas, or melodic frameworks, with no tala, or beat cycle. The poem is fixed, and you make the music on the spot.

It usually comes just before a song such as a kriti. You start with the poem: one stanza, such as a Tevaram hymn, learnt line by line with a translation. Our [online academy](/en-int/academy) starts you at **Foundation**, with workshops and summer camps where enough learners sign up.
