Brahmin men of the village, called Bhagavatulu, staged it, and the troupes were all-male: men played every female role, a practice called **stree vesham** that hereditary masters still keep. Kuchipudi is performed to Carnatic music, the classical music of south India, and today joins pure dance, expressive dance and drama on the concert stage. Kathak and tabla learners in Vijayawada can study on KalaSudha's [online courses](/en-int/courses), beside every other discipline. Kathak is the classical dance of north India, a separate form from Kuchipudi. Foundation assessment uses practical work and spoken questions, and a KalaSudha certificate or diploma completes each level. A full group of Vijayawada learners is what starts workshops and summer camps there. You move past a topic once your instructor has reviewed your work. KalaSudha's concerts include the Kala Festival, a touring festival, and learners of any teacher can ask KalaSudha for an assessment too.
