About KalaSudha in Maidenhead
KalaSudha brought Indian classical music to Maidenhead on Wednesday 23 August 2023, when An Instrumental Journey Through the Nature came to Norden Farm Centre for the Arts on Altwood Road as part of Kala Festival 2023. Pandit Debasis Chakroborty played Indian slide guitar with Deepak Shah on piano and Durjay Bhaumik on tabla, with Dr Lovely Sharma also on the bill. The same four artists played Cambridge's West Road Concert Hall six days earlier. Norden Farm has a café and level access to its main performance spaces.
Since then we have presented Kala Festival concerts in Reading, at the University's Great Hall on the London Road campus, on 14 September 2025 and 12 September 2026. In 2025 Ustad Akram Khan played a tabla solo there after the interval. In 2026 the programme ran from a midday sarangi and tabla concert to an evening of slide guitar.
Register for updates to hear if we return to Norden Farm on Altwood Road. Pandit Debasis Chakroborty, the slide guitarist that August evening, now teaches online in Indian Slide Guitar with Debasis Chakroborty.

I have never been to an Indian classical concert. What kind of music and musicians will I hear at a KalaSudha concert in Maidenhead?
A raga performance opens with the alap, a slow section with no pulse. In instrumental music the jor then brings in a steady pulse, and when the tabla enters with the composition, the rhythm takes hold. KalaSudha concerts run in two halves with a short interval, about 2 to 2½ hours. KalaSudha's Maidenhead evening at Norden Farm brought the raga pianist Deepak Shah, the tabla player Durjay Bhaumik and Lovely Sharma. See the first-time listener guide and Maidenhead concerts.
