About KalaSudha in Surat
Indian classical music in Surat reaches into its temples. The Pushtimarg sect's own textbook, describing haveli sangeet, names three regional styles of temple kirtan, and Surat is among the Gujarat towns listed for one of them. Haveli sangeet is the sung devotional service of the sect's temples, offered to Krishna in a dhrupad-based style.
The city's learners also have a music school on the Vanita Vishram campus at Athwa Gate. Its Sangeet Vidhyalaya teaches classical vocal and instrumental music to learners of any age and runs in affiliation with the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal.
Alongside the city's Gandharva-affiliated school, KalaSudha's online courses teach sitar, tabla and every other discipline, and its levels prepare learners for the same Gandharva Mahavidyalaya exams. A KalaSudha certificate or diploma closes each level of study. Workshops and summer camps reach Surat once enough learners there sign up, and learners of other teachers can ask for an assessment. KalaSudha also presents concerts, the Kala Festival among them, a touring festival.
