About Advanced
Advanced tabla prepares you for a judged thirty-minute concert, with composition and supervised teaching alongside. You enter after Intermediate or a placement session that confirms the same skills. It is the third level of the tabla course prepared by KalaSudha. As a typical guide, Advanced takes 12–30 months, and you agree the pace with your teacher.
Module 3A builds a solo: an opening such as a peshkar or uthan, kayda and rela development with planned contrast, and fixed compositions placed in order. You also sustain slow laya beneath a partner and retune to the lehra's raga. The module ends with a fifteen-minute solo section.

Module 3B covers layakari, rhythm played against the cycle: damdar and bedam tihais from three starting beats, aad, kuaad and biaad patterns, chakradar structures and the transcription of an attributed recording. You analyse the six gharanas through sourced examples, with electives such as Delhi or Punjab.
Module 3C prepares the concert: stage sound, a notated programme with sources, an original kayda with two paltas and a tihai, and one Foundation topic taught under supervision. In a cohort, you rehearse the solo and the programme in front of fellow learners before the judged performance. A judging assessor other than your teacher reviews the concert, and the level leads to a KalaSudha award (see certificates). Ask about Advanced in the Academy.

Questions about Advanced
Entry, pace, assessment and what you show to finish the level.
Preparation for a first tabla solo runs through the Advanced level. Module 3A builds a fifteen-minute solo section, and 3C adds a dated preparation plan, a sound check and tuning recovery between items.
Your teacher reviews rehearsal recordings with you, then you perform thirty minutes to an audience: twenty minutes of solo and ten of accompaniment.
Advanced tabla starts after Intermediate or a placement session that confirms the same skills. You should play kaydas and relas with clear bols, hold Jhaptal, Ektal and Rupak, place a simple chakradar and tihais, and accompany a singer, an instrumental gat and a dancer.
Your teacher records any gaps before placing you.
The Advanced level of the tabla course ends with a thirty-minute programme to an audience: twenty minutes of solo and ten of accompaniment. A judging assessor other than your teacher reviews cycle accuracy, bol clarity, development, partner response and recovery; a failed criterion needs correction and reassessment.
You also submit an original kayda with two paltas and a tihai, an observed Foundation lesson, and a written theory portfolio with a viva. All eighteen Advanced skills must be met.
Yes. Advanced tabla includes one Foundation topic that you plan and teach while a supervisor observes. You submit a lesson plan, diagnose a learner's error and show one useful correction.
The supervisor records the correction and the learner's response. A small-group teaching elective is also available.
