Cette soirée exceptionnelle réunit quatre artistes issus d’univers musicaux distincts : **Pandit Debasis Chakroborty**, maître de la **guitare slide indienne**, venu d’Agra (Inde) ; le **guitariste Giuliano Moderalli**, du Royaume-Uni ; **Sam Evans** à la tabla, d’Australie ; et RN Prakash au **ghatam**. La présence de (RN) **Bangalore Prakash** apporte les couleurs rythmiques profondes et complexes de la **percussion carnatique** à cet ensemble. Réunir sur scène des artistes de légende issus de traditions aussi diverses constitue en soi une occasion rare. La voix intérieure et méditative de la guitare slide indienne entre en conversation avec les riches harmonies de la guitare occidentale, portées par l’assise rythmique de la tabla et du ghatam. Ce spectacle honore à parts égales la tradition et la création contemporaine. ***Fondations classiques*** La première partie est consacrée à la musique classique indienne dans sa forme la plus pure : une composition fondée sur un raga avec alap et jod (20 minutes), suivie de deux pièces en rupak (7 temps) et jhaptal (10 temps), de 15 minutes chacune. Le timbre singulier des deux guitares révèle la profondeur mélodique et improvisatoire des ragas indiens. ***Horizons fusion*** Après l’entracte, la deuxième partie ouvre la voie à l’exploration créatrice. Trois pièces improvisées de 10 minutes chacune, où éléments, rythmes et textures de la musique indienne et occidentale se mêlent naturellement. Dans ce volet, les guitares tissent mélodie, harmonie et rythme de manière spontanée et captivante, accompagnées par la tabla et le ghatam. Who is the guitarist Giuliano Modarelli, and how did he come to Indian music? [**Giuliano Modarelli**](/fr-ca/artist/giuliano-modarelli) is a London-based Italian [guitarist](/fr-ca/instrument/guitar) and composer who blends Indian classical music, jazz and contemporary world music. Born in Milan in 1977, he moved to England in 2000 and took a bachelor's degree in jazz at Leeds College of Music in 2003. He studied Indian music with the sitar player Dharambir Singh and the sarod players Buddhadev Dasgupta and Prattyush Bannerjee. He founded the collective Samay and the ensemble Kefaya, and he has worked with [Ustad Shahbaz Hussain](/fr-ca/artist/shahbaz-hussain) and Pandit Ajay Prasanna. His name is also written Debasis Chakraborty. He plays in the [Senia-Maihar gharana](/fr-ca/gharana/senia-maihar-gharana) and has taught since 1992. He has been part of the Department of Performing Arts at Mangalayatan University since its inception, and returns to universities in Australia and the USA as a conductor-performer and artist-in-residence. He helped carry out a joint music research project between Mangalayatan University and Monash University, and has published 10 research papers. What is an Indian slide guitar, how is it played, and where can I learn it? The **Indian slide guitar** is a guitar laid flat across the lap and stopped with a steel bar instead of fingers on frets. It is an instrument of **Hindustani classical music**, the classical music of North India. Sympathetic strings ring underneath the melody unstruck, and the player plucks extra drone (chikari) strings. The bar never leaves the string, so one note travels into the next without a break. The [**Senia-Maihar gharana**](/fr-ca/gharana/senia-maihar-gharana) is the [sarod](/fr-ca/instrumental/hindustani-classical/sarod) lineage that Allauddin Khan founded at Maihar, a former princely state, in the early 20th century. Most sources treat it and the Maihar gharana as one school spanning several instruments. "Senia" names the Tansen line, which Allauddin Khan joined as a disciple of Wazir Khan of Rampur.
