Quatre fois nommé aux Grammy, il compte parmi les plus grands flûtistes de la **bansuri** en Inde. En novembre dernier, il nous a rejoints pour une tournée de quatre villes, d’Oxford jusqu’au Duke’s Hall. Cette fois, il vient dans le cadre de la tournée des Gorillaz, qui ont intégré sa bansuri dans leur album Parvat (La Montagne). Nous lui sommes reconnaissants d’avoir dégagé du temps pour notre darbar dans un calendrier si chargé. Kayam Hussain l’accompagne au **tabla**. Pandit Ajay Prasanna perpétue l’héritage de la bansuri du **gharana de Banaras**, transmis par son père Pandit Bholanath Prasanna, dont Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia fut aussi l’élève. Il a reçu le Global Indian Music Award et le Sangeet Ratna. Kayam est le fils et disciple d’Ustad Shahbaz Hussain, qui avait ouvert cette série en juillet. Kayam a joué du tabla lors de la tournée des Gorillaz. Comme chacune de nos soirées Ragas, celle-ci vous invite à marquer une pause. Les traditions classiques indiennes conçoivent la musique comme une méditation: la résonance sonore, le **shabd**, comme un chemin vers l’équilibre, en soi comme dans la société. La bansuri s’y prête parfaitement: elle est la voix audible du souffle, et un long **alap** peut apaiser une salle tout comme une respiration lente apaise l’esprit. Who is the flautist Pandit Ajay Prasanna, and what is his musical lineage? [**Pandit Ajay Prasanna**](/fr-fr/artist/ajay-prasanna) is a [flute](/fr-fr/instrument/flute) player from a musical family. He carries forward the legacy of his father, Bholanath Prasanna, a flute master whose students include Hariprasad Chaurasia. He plays in the style of the Banaras gharana. He has performed across India and abroad, including at Queen Elizabeth Hall in London and at festivals in Asia and Europe. His honours include Grammy nominations, the Global Indian Music Award for his album Cinema, the Sangeet Ratna Award and the Surmani Award. Who is the tabla player Kayam Hussain, and who taught him? [**Kayam Hussain**](/fr-fr/artist/kayam-hussain) is a British [tabla](/fr-fr/instrument/tabla) player based near Rochdale, in the north of England. He is the son and student of [Ustad Shahbaz Hussain](/fr-fr/artist/shahbaz-hussain), and he grew up inside the tradition, learning at home and appearing on stage beside his father from a young age. He has played tabla with Gorillaz. At KalaSudha, he accompanies visiting masters at the London Ragas baithak. What is a bansuri, how is it made, and how is it played? A [**bansuri**](/fr-fr/instrument/flute) is a transverse flute cut from a single length of seasoned bamboo. It has no keys and no moving parts, only six finger holes, or seven in Pannalal Ghosh's style. The maker burns or drills the blow hole and the finger holes. The player controls pitch through the lips at the blow hole, breath pressure and **half-holing**, covering a finger hole in part, which gives the slides and bends of a raga.
