The Marwa raganga represents the archetype of tension, anxiety, and the unsettled transition of twilight in Hindustani classical music. It corresponds to a scale that has no perfect fifth (Pancham), leaving the listener without the usual "resting pillar" of the scale. This omission creates a profound sense of instability and restlessness. 

Its core identity is defined by the Marwa Thaat, using Komal Rishabh (r) and Tivra Madhyam (M^). Unlike the peaceful morning ragas or the romantic night ragas, Marwa is the sound of the Sandhiprakash (the junction of light and dark) at sunset. It captures the specific mood of the sun dipping below the horizon, a time of day that is neither day nor night, evoking a sense of urgency and introspection. 

Marwa is often described as having a "dry" or "heroic" character, but it is the heroism of a lone warrior or an ascetic struggling with the mind. The melody rarely rests on the tonic Sa, preferring to hover around Re and Dha, which keeps the listener in a state of suspended anticipation. 

This raganga embodies Vairagya (Detachment), Anxiety, and Awe, forming the basis for ragas like Puriya, Sohini, and Marwa itself. It is the melody of the "unresolved," compelling the listener to look inward.
