Start at Foundation if you are new to the music or dance you want to learn. It needs no experience. If you have learnt before, the level to start at is the first one whose prerequisites you already meet, and each course lists those on its level and module pages.
Still unsure? Book one one-to-one session as an entry assessment, and the instructor tells you where you fit.
The three levels
KalaSudha courses run in three levels, and each level leads to its own award:
- Foundation leads to the Sthayi Certificate, assessed through practical work and spoken questions.
- Intermediate leads to the Antara Diploma, and adds written theory to the practical work.
- Advanced leads to the Sanchari Advanced Diploma, with theory papers and a judged stage performance on top.
Above the three sits the Abhog Fellowship, which KalaSudha awards and no course teaches. The certificates page sets out what each award needs.
Each level has three modules: 1A to 1C at Foundation, 2A to 2C at Intermediate and 3A to 3C at Advanced. You can start a course at a later module when you meet its prerequisites.
Check a course's prerequisites
- Open the course from the courses page.
- Open the level, then the module you are thinking of starting at.
- Read the prerequisites. A typical line reads "Completion of Module 1A or equivalent basics."
- If you can already do what the line describes, that module is a fair place to start.
Book an entry assessment
An entry assessment is one one-to-one session with the instructor. You play, sing or dance what you know, and the instructor tells you which level and module suit you. It suits anyone who learnt with another teacher, or who stopped for a while and wants to come back.
To book it, read Book a one-to-one session. The full picture of how one-to-one and batch learning work is in How learning works at KalaSudha.
If you start at a later module
On a one-to-one course the instructor can add, skip or adapt topics for you, so a missing basic can come into your plan. Each topic stays open until the instructor reviews your work and closes it, and you book another session on it until then.
If this does not work
If a course shows no prerequisites, or you cannot tell which line applies to you, email [email protected] with the course, what you have learnt so far and for how long. We reply within one working day. When you know your level, Enrol in a course. See also Contact us.
