About Shanish Kumar
Dr Shanish Kumar Gyawali plays bansuri in the Banaras tradition. He studied in Varanasi under Shri Vinod Prasanna and Dr Prahalad Nath, and holds a PhD in Musicology from Banaras Hindu University.
His playing carries the Banaras gharana's vocal-inflected approach to the flute. He has performed at the Sankatmochan Sangeet Samaroh, Ganga Mahotsava, and Khajuraho Dance Festival. All India Radio holds him at 'B High' grade; the Ministry of HRD awarded him the Young Artist Scholarship.
Over fifteen years, he has taught bansuri and Hindustani classical music, and performed with KalaSudha at the Purvi Festival in Motihari.
