What is a tarshehnai?
Updated
A tarshehnai is an esraj fitted with a mechanical horn. Beneath the horn is the same instrument: a bowed lute with frets, sympathetic strings and a goatskin soundtable over a waisted wooden body. Museum esrajes carry four bowed main strings and 15 sympathetic strings.
