About This Track
Aditya Dip opens Echoes of Kashi with twenty-nine minutes of pakhawaj solo in Chautaal, with Dr Indradeo Choudhary holding the lehra on harmonium. Chautaal is the twelve-beat cycle of Dhrupad, counted in six pairs, with the sam on beat one and the khali on beats three and seven. Pakhawaj players recite its theka as Dha Dha Din Ta Kit Dha Din Ta Tit Kat Gadi Gan, twelve bols for twelve beats. It is the longest track on the EP, twice the length of either of the other two.
Jalad Chautaal, the second track, is the same cycle at fast tempo, and Sadra, the third, is in ten beats.
