London Ragas Fusion: Flute, Piano, Tabla & Ghatam in Dialogue

“I think what was beautiful is the confluence, so it's a confluence of cultures, we were discussing that outside, and we were just talking about Sufism and oneness, you know, so that again is a proof of that oneness, how the instruments from West and East merge together.”

London-Ragas-Fusion
  • Great experience, thoroughly enlightening, and great to see all the different musicians working together. We enjoyed the fusion, I thought that was brilliant. Fusion, yes. Different experience, thank you.
  • Yeah, the music was so universal, it's like you brought everybody together. Absolutely. And I really felt like the instruments were like part, it was almost like it was part of their bodies. Yeah, the way they played, which was just so amazing.
  • Absolutely extraordinary. I don't think I've ever experienced a combination of instruments that way. I mean, I've got to say, I felt absolute bliss just running through my body throughout that entire event. I just couldn't stop smiling. The sheer artistry and brilliance of those artists was just something that I cannot even describe to anybody unless they sit there and they experience it themselves. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I hope that we have many, many more of these types of concerts and I hope that these artists will at least produce something together or come together on the stage. It's a gift. Thank you so much.

About KalaSudha in London

London Ragas is KalaSudha's concert series of Indian classical music in London, and it moves between venues across the city. KalaSudha has presented concerts at Royal Wharf Community Dock, The Tate Institute, The Duke's Hall at the Royal Academy of Music and Hoxton Hall. Its Kala Festival concerts in London have played The Bhavan on Castletown Road. Henry Tate built The Tate Institute for the Silvertown neighbourhood in 1887. Listeners at every London concert talk with each other in the interval and after the music, and the musicians usually stay to meet them.

At a baithak you share the room with the musicians. Royal Wharf seats 160 and has no stage between you and the players. Sit close if you can. When Kathak is on the bill, watch the feet for the time cycle and the face for the story. Artists who have played London for us include Ustad Akram Khan, Shakir Khan and Pandit Debasis Chakroborty.

Upcoming London concerts and workshops are listed on this page, each with its own booking link. Join the newsletter to hear when new dates are announced.
