Origins & Context
Raag Nand is a Kalyan thaat raga of Hindustani music, performed at night, that uses the seven shuddha notes with tivra Ma added in the descent. Shuddha means natural, tivra raised, and a thaat is a parent scale. It is also called Anandi, Anandi Kalyan or Nand Kalyan. George Howlett tags its thaat as inexact.
In this notation, M# is tivra Ma, a note in brackets is a grace note, and an apostrophe marks the upper octave. One teaching outline gives the aroha, or ascent, as S G M D P R S, G M P N S'. Its avaroha, or descent, is S' D N P, D M# P G, G M D P R S. The vadi, the most prominent note, is Sa. Its partner, the samvadi, is Pa.
The outline hears Nand close to Bihag, Gaud Sarang, Hameer and Kamod. It keeps Nand clear with its signature turn, S G M D P R S. The AUTRIM project of the National Centre for the Performing Arts and the University of Amsterdam, citing Patki, hears the same shades.
KalaSudha presents Hindustani musicians in concert and releases their recordings. Its academy teaches ragas online and in local workshops, and each course is built by its instructor with KalaSudha.

Phraseologies
Key for these phrases: M# is tivra Ma, a note in brackets is a grace note, and an apostrophe puts a note in the upper octave.
The AUTRIM project hears shuddha Ma as prominent and keeps tivra Ma for the descent beside Pa, as in D P M# P. Re is left out going up but stressed coming down, with a glide from Dha, as in D P R S. Ga and Ni can be held.
One teaching outline warns that S' N D P can sound like Bihag and S' D N P, D M P G like Gaud Sarang. It adds turns such as G M D P R S to keep Nand clear. AUTRIM notes that Bihag and Maru Bihag share these notes and move differently.
