About KalaSudha in Ajmer

Indian classical music in Ajmer has a Sufi voice at the dargah of the saint Moinuddin Chishti, also known as Garib Nawaz. During the Urs, which marks his death, qawwali gatherings are held in the mehfilkhana, a hall within the dargah complex, Outlook Traveller reports. The music begins after 10pm and can carry on into the early hours, with the Diwan presiding.

Qawwali's history runs back to the Chishti order. The poet Amir Khusrau was a disciple of the Chishti saint Nizamuddin Auliya, and later accounts credit him with shaping qawwali, though Sunil Sharma notes that no record documents the musical inventions credited to Khusrau.

Sitar and tabla learners in Ajmer can take KalaSudha's online courses, which teach every other discipline too. Each topic credits named skills, and a KalaSudha certificate or diploma closes each level. Once enough learners in the city sign up, workshops and summer camps follow; KalaSudha also presents concerts, among them the Kala Festival, a touring festival, and its recordings and concert videos play online. Learners of other teachers can ask for an assessment.
