Marwa

Origins & Context
"Marwa is the raga of the sun's last rays; it is beautiful, but it warns you that the light is leaving.

Global connections and equivalent scales
Raag Marwa is a masterclass in "Atonal Tension" within a classical framework. In world music history, it belongs to a rare category of scales that deliberately avoid the "home" note (tonic) to create psychological discomfort or spiritual yearning. It functions as a "Twilight Bridge," representing the instability of transition.
While most global scales seek resolution and "consonance," Marwa is one of the few that celebrate "Dissonance as Devotion," making it a favourite for avant-garde composers and seekers of the "otherworldly."
