È definito da ciò che manca: omette completamente il Pancham (P) e tratta il Shadja (S), la nota di casa, come un punto da evitare. 

In Marwa, l'anima si sente "senza casa". Sospendendo incessantemente sul Komal Re (r) e Shuddha Dha (D), il raga crea un senso di desiderio irrequieto e rinuncia ascetica (Tyaga).
