Every KalaSudha course is a set of topics, grouped into modules and levels. You learn them one-to-one with the instructor at your own pace, or in a batch with a group on a timetable. Each course is built by its instructor with KalaSudha, and the KalaSudha Academy covers music and dance.
How a course is built
- A course has three levels: Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced.
- Each level has three modules. Foundation modules are coded 1A, 1B and 1C, then 2A to 2C at Intermediate and 3A to 3C at Advanced.
- A module has 12 topics. A topic can take one session or several.
Topic 1 of a module orients you or reviews the module before. Topics 2 to 10 carry the new material and topic 11 pulls it together. Then, in topic 12 you present what you have learnt.
Each level leads to an award, from the Sthayi Certificate at Foundation up to the Sanchari Advanced Diploma at Advanced. The certificates page explains each one.
Learning one-to-one
You book sessions on a topic and work through it with your instructor. The topic stays open until the instructor reviews your work and closes it. If it is still open, you book another session on it. Once it closes, the next topic opens.
Your instructor may add, skip or adapt topics to suit you. One-to-one also suits an entry assessment, to find your level, or a single class to correct one point. To book, read Book a one-to-one session.
Learning in a batch
A batch is a group that meets on a timetable and covers one topic per class, so a module runs to 12 classes. Each class lasts 40 minutes, which makes 8 hours of live classes per module.
Batch learners also get time with an assistant and guided practice material, about 10 hours per module. The instructor adapts the topics for the group and closes each one for the group as a whole.
What comes with each topic
- The live class, in our own video classroom.
- Preparation before the class, such as warm-ups and revision.
- Notes and resources: notation, listening links and a practice plan.
- A practice recording you upload. Your instructor scores it and talks it through in the next class.
- Short theory questions, where the topic needs them.
Two learners on one course may follow different paths, because the instructor shapes the topics around each learner.
