About This Track
After three movements of Yaman, Deepak Shah turns to Raag Puriya Dhanashree, a twilight raga of the Purvi thaat that joins two older ragas, Puriya and Dhanashri, in one frame. Where its neighbours Marwa and Puriya keep the ground unsteady, Puriya Dhanashree rests on a firm Sa-Pa axis with the Pancham as vadi. Shah leans on that stability, colouring his phrases with the komal Rishabh and raised Madhyam while the Gandhar carries the shadow of Nishad it inherits from Puriya.
At under seven minutes this is the most compact raga performance on the album, a concentrated sunset statement between the Yaman arc and the devotional close. It comes from the same Kala Festival 2025 concert at The Assembly House, Norwich.
