About This Track

Deepak Shah ends his Raag Yaman set with the jhala, the sprint that closes an instrumental raga. On sitar or sarod the jhala rides the drone strings; Shah gets the same effect from rapid repeated notes, the pulse of the jod now doubled and redoubled until the melody flashes between strikes. The raga keeps its shape at speed, with the Teevra Madhyam still marking every climb.

Eight minutes long, this track completes the alap-jod-jhala arc that opens the album. Puriya Dhanashree and a closing devotional piece follow, both from the same Norwich evening at The Assembly House during Kala Festival 2025.
