About This Track

Ustad Akram Khan ends the Rupak section of his Kala Festival 2025 solo with a Rela, a composition built for speed. The name comes from the Hindi word for a torrent. It shares the kaida's theme-and-variation frame and runs it as a continuous stream of strokes at drut tempo, so the seven beats of Rupak Taal race past under his fingers.

At under five minutes this is the shortest tabla movement on the album, a sprint after the Peshkar and Kaida of the two previous tracks. It clears the way for the finale, where Akram Khan leaves Rupak for Teental and the long Chakradar set.
