Raymond Wui Man Yiu is a classically trained pianist based in London. Born in Hong Kong, he moved to Aberdeen in 2008 to study at the Aberdeen City Music School under the tutelage of Peter Evans. There, he made his concerto debut in 2010 with Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20 and, after winning Aberdeen Young Musician of the Year, went on to perform works by Schumann, Prokofiev, Rachmaninoff and Grieg at festivals like the Aberdeen International Youth Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe.
In 2012, Raymond won a scholarship to the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, where he earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees with Distinction studying with Joan Havill. He has since collected awards at the Springboard, Worthing, and Edinburgh festivals; placed at the Bromsgrove, Moray, and Windsor international competitions; and in 2019, took Third Prize at the Norah Sande Awards and the Christopher Duke International Piano Competition. He also joined the KNS Classical label.
Most recently, he completed an Artist Diploma at Trinity Laban Conservatoire under the guidance of Gabriele Baldocci, winning the John Longmire and Alfred Kitchin Competitions for his performances of Beethoven and Schumann. As part of the Bolling Trio, he won the Carne Trust Chamber Music Competition, and he’s appeared as a soloist in Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto with the London Gay Symphony Orchestra. His studies have been supported by the Felix Marr Award, the Leathersellers’ Company, the Dewar Arts Awards, and others.
Alongside performing, Raymond teaches piano at St Albans High School for Girls, Newton Prep and St Philomena’s. His students have won scholarships to Wells Cathedral Music School, Alleyn’s, St Dunstan’s College, Royal Grammar School (Dubai) and Kingsdale. He is also researching the teaching methods and music of Tobias Matthay, a pivotal English piano pedagogue of the 20th century.
