KalaSudha Composer lets you write a bandish in notation in your browser: Bhatkhande-style sargam for Hindustani music, beat by beat, inside its raga and taal. Composer comes with the Sadhana digital tools subscription. Sign in, go to kalasudha.com/compose, and write in the sections of the bandish, then save it under a title.
Open Composer
- Sign in to your KalaSudha account.
- Go to kalasudha.com/compose.
- The first time, a walkthrough points out each part of the editor. Press Next to move through it.
If the page says Access denied, your account does not have the Sadhana digital tools subscription. Is there a limit on KalaSudha Composer compositions? explains each message.
Write a bandish
- Choose the Raga and the Taal. The grid follows the beats of the taal.
- Choose the script you read fastest: English (S R G M), Hindi, Bengali, Assamese, Gujarati, Marathi, Odia or Punjabi.
- Use Add Section for the Sthayi, Antara and later sections, and Add Row for more lines.
- Select a beat and pick a note on the swara keyboard. Set its octave, and mark a meend across the notes it spans.
- Turn on lyrics to write the words under the line, and show the theka when you want the rhythm in view.
To start from a written piece, press Load Sample and pick a bandish to study or rework. Try one in Raga Bhupali, a pentatonic raga that suits beginners.
Save your composition
- Type the Composition title.
- Choose the Visibility: Private, Unlisted or Public.
- Press Save Composition.
Draft sync mode sets how drafts save while you write: Off, Auto or every 30 seconds. Your saved pieces are in My Compositions (kalasudha.com/user/compositions), where you open, edit, print or delete them.
If this does not work
Composer says "Please enter a title for your composition."
Type a title in Composition title, then save again.
