Tejaswini Vernekar (Live from Purvi Festival 2023)

Tejaswini Vernekar is a Hindustani classical vocalist and Gold Medallist from Banaras Hindu University, trained under eminent gurus of the vocal tradition. An All India Radio-graded artist, she performs across India and internationally, known for precise layakari and a patient, structured approach to raga.

Raag Shree is a twilight raga of considerable gravity, associated with introspection and devotion. It builds from a sustained Alap through Vilambit compositions that take time to establish each phrase, then accelerates into Drut and Tarana. The raga asks the listener to stay with its extended, deliberate development.

This album documents a full classical progression: Alap, Vilambit, Drut, and Tarana, followed by the bandish Manwa More and the bhajan Mhare Ghar Aao. Across seven tracks, Vernekar covers the raga's range from its open, unhurried beginning to the rhythmic precision of the Tarana.
